The kindle screen looks like the page of a book. The Nook screen looks like a computer screen. I stare at computer screens all day every day from about the time I wake up to the time I go to sleep.
I didn't want an e-reader that looked anything like a computer. For a long time I resisted the call of them but my dad ordered my mom one for Christmas, and he asked me to set it up for her. Apparently because I'm younger, I'm hip to all this newfangled technology even though I'd never set eyes on a kindle before. Obviously, I fell in love with it.

The full size of it is about the size of a trade paperback. The screen of it is comparable to the size of a mass market paperback.

My SCREEN is the size of the smaller kindle linked above, or the size of a trade paperback. Since that is my preferred book size of choice, it's perfect for me. Mine is always connected to the internet through cell phone towers. (As an aside, I didn't ask for the DX, but due to some serious fuckery on the part of Best Buy towards my fiance, that's what I got. At employee cost, which worked out to $25 more than the smaller Kindle 3)
Both of ours hold 3500 books. Yes. THREE THOUSAND FIVE HUNDRED. Nook can only hold 1500. I think Kindle's formatting is proprietary for the device so I don't know about backup elsewhere.
Hers has a battery life of up to a month with wireless off. I find that as much as I read, I'm charging it once a week. I can turn Whispernet off, but I don't see the need to. I don't know about the Nook's battery life.
I'm sure that you can do more on a Nook since it does look and act more like a computer, but I wanted a BOOK. And that's what I got.
Oh, my book also can read to me if I feel like it. I can listen to audiobooks I put on it. I think it can hold my music too, if I should so choose to put any on there.
I love it. I have a nice leather case that holds it and I got a small led booklight that tucks into the case.
